FR : L'enseigne Franprix est créée en 1958 par Jean Baud, fils d’épiciers de Choisy-le-Roi. Elle se compose de magasins de proximité de moins de 500 m2 et se concentre essentiellement dans Paris et la petite couronne d'Île-de-France : secteur que les hypermarchés (souvent placés en périphéries des agglomérations) ne parvenaient pas à satisfaire pleinement. Le groupe Casino entre au capital de l’enseigne en 1997 et augmente sa participation d’année en année, jusqu’à détenir la totalité des parts en 2007. Il prend alors le contrôle de la gestion opérationnelle de Franprix.

ENG : The Franprix brand was created in 1958 by Jean Baud, son of grocers from Choisy-le-Roi. It is made up of local stores of less than 500 m2 and is mainly concentrated in Paris and the inner suburbs of Île-de-France: a sector that hypermarkets (often located on the outskirts of urban areas) were unable to fully satisfy. The Casino group took a stake in the brand in 1997 and increased its stake from year to year, until it held all the shares in 2007. It then took control of the operational management of Franprix.
