Situated in the heart of the Loire Valley, Tours is a city steeped in history, renowned for its rich architectural heritage, half-timbered houses and picturesque banks of the Loire. As the former capital of the kingdom of France, it has a dynamic, gastronomic and pleasant atmosphere, making it a must for Touraine tourists.
The mod is currently compatible with :
➜ Custom models
Throughout the map, you'll find custom assets that you've never seen before in the base game. Some are completely new while others have been taken from existing prefabs and turned into standalone models. I was able to add a totally unique French panel pack and this was my first big Blender project. The textures and 3D are not of extraordinary quality but I plan to make a second version of this pack in the near future.
➜ Mapping & optimisation
I'm proud to present the Tours add-on as it is at the moment: I've spent a lot of time on it, I've taken the time to make the zones to offer something detailed and pretty. But I don't consider myself to be an excellent mapper: I still have a lot to learn and work on the editor. Working on the 1:19 scale was a first for me and I'm still happy with what I've achieved. It wasn't perfect and some areas are less realistic than others. I'll try to improve on this point for my potential future projects on this scale.
As for optimisation, that's the key point I'm fighting for. I admit that I may have been too greedy in terms of the resources required. There seems to be too much detail and the accessible areas are too close together. Despite this, I tried to optimise the map as much as possible using my skills and knowledge of the editor. So all in all, sorry for the big red spot this add-on has, I'll try to improve it but unfortunately I can't promise anything.
➜ Conclusion
Throughout the process of creating the mod, I've been able to experiment, learn and analyse things both on Blender and the map editor. It's a project that surpasses those of *Bourges Updated* and *Peyrat-le-Château* and overall, the result is clearly different. I've even been able to see my evolution through this Tours project (some of the areas I did at the very beginning have been partially redone!)
