What is Real Climate System?

American Truck Simulator handles weather through a single global Rain Probability Slider that applies one uniform rain chance across the entire map. Out of the box, ATS includes only five broad climate types, and these only function correctly when the slider is left at its default position of 7%. This one-size-fits-all approach means Seattle and Phoenix can share the same rainy afternoon — and that just isn't right.

Real Climate System fixes that. This mod assigns authentic, real-world climate profiles to every city and sector across the entire ATS map, including all DLC states. Every climate zone is built on NOAA historical precipitation data and the Köppen climate classification system, giving each region its own distinct and believable weather character. With 18 real-world climate profiles covering the full map, driving through the Pacific Northwest will feel nothing like driving through the Mojave Desert — because it shouldn't.

What It Does

• Assigns real-world climate profiles to every city and sector across the ATS map, including all DLC states
• Provides 18 distinct climate profiles based on NOAA historical data and the Köppen climate classification
• Delivers realistic rain probability tuned to each region
• Provides realistic wetting and drying behavior appropriate to each climate
• Introduces more authentic temperature representation across regions
• Offers more authentic sky condition choices suited to each climate zone

What It Does NOT Do

Real Climate System is a climate and weather behavior mod only. It does not:

• Replace or modify any graphics, textures, or visual effects
• Replace or modify any sounds or audio

How to Use It

Using Real Climate System is straightforward:

1. Place Real Climate System above your weather graphics mods in your mod load order.
2. Enjoy a more realistic climate experience while still benefiting from the visual enhancements of your favorite weather mods.

IMPORTANT — Rain Probability Slider

You must keep the Rain Probability Slider at its default position of 7%. This is the specific position that SCS Software designated for climate profiles to function. Setting the slider to any other value overrides the climate system with a single global rain probability, effectively disabling Real Climate System entirely.

• Any value other than 7% — Sets a uniform rain chance across the entire map, ignoring all climate profiles
• 0% — Disables rain completely everywhere
• 100% — Disables clear weather completely everywhere

Simply put: leave the slider alone and let Real Climate System do its job.

Compatibility

• Compatible with most weather and graphics mods
• Covers the full base ATS map and all DLC states

• Does not work with custom maps — Custom map compatibility is not currently supported
• Requires updates when SCS Software changes, adds, or removes map sectors — When SCS Software releases updates that alter the map, Real Climate System will need to be updated to reflect those changes

Known Limitations

• Real Climate System currently does not work with custom/third-party maps. It is designed and tested against the official ATS map and its DLC expansions only.
• Because the Rain Probability Slider behavior is a base game characteristic, it cannot be overridden by any mod. The 7% default requirement is a game engine limitation, not a mod design choice.

Where is Real Climate System Going?

The 18 climate profiles in the current version are just the foundation. Version 2.0 is coming soon and will take realism even further, refining the climate system down to the individual city level with:

• Proper temperature curves by region
• Tuned fog settings per climate zone
• Customized rain intensity settings
• And more refinements throughout

Looking further ahead, future updates will explore:

• Custom map compatibility — bringing Real Climate System to third-party and community maps
• Dynamic seasonal changes — the possibility of weather that shifts realistically with the seasons
