Chanel or Chanel SAS is a French company producing haute couture, as well as ready-to-wear, accessories, perfumes and various luxury products. It has its origins in the fashion house created by Gabrielle Bonheur Chasnel, known as “Coco Chanel”, in 1910, but resulting from the takeover of Chanel (couture) by the company Les Parfums Chanel in 1954.
It is majority owned by brothers Alain Wertheimer and Gérard Wertheimer. They are the grandsons of Pierre Wertheimer, associate of Coco Chanel. The brand's headquarters is located in Neuilly-sur-Seine but the company is controlled by a holding company based in the Netherlands and whose group is in London.
